Wilmington man killed in hit-and-run while walking on Augustine Cut Off


A 79-year-old Wilmington man who was walking along Augustine Cut Off early Sunday was killed when he was hit by a car that left the scene.

Delaware State Police said an unknown type of vehicle, possibly a silver or gray Honda, was involved in the hit-and-run.

Police said the car drove off the right side of Augustine Cut Off, east of Rock Manor Avenue in Wilmington, around 3:21 a.m. Sunday morning hitting a road sign. The vehicle continued east where it struck the man who was walking on Augustine Cut Off east of Edgewood Road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The release of his name is pending notification of next of kin.

The roadway was closed for almost four hours while the incident was investigated.
