West Des Moines man arrested after making false death report


West Des Moines police say the report of a body dumped into the pond behind the West Des Moines Public Library is false.KCCI first reported the story on Tuesday Morning, saying that police were investigating two scenes: the pond behind the library and a property on Fuller Road. Police told KCCI that the two scenes were connected.Police say the bizarre story started with a report from Mason Kiefer, who told police that he killed a homeless man and threw his body in the water.After searching the pond with a search boat and a drone, police have confirmed to KCCI that this report is not true.Two miles east of the pond, Kiefer was found at his parents’ condo and escorted out of the building by officers. He was loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher and has since been arrested. The man that Kiefer claimed he killed has been found alive by police.Kiefer is now being held at the Polk County Jail.
