US: Surgeons transplant pig kidney to living patient for first time


A team of surgeons successfully transplanted a pig kidney into a living patient for the first time, said Massachusetts General Hospital on Thursday (Mar 21).

The four-hour-long operation was carried out on Saturday (Mar 16) on a 62-year-old man suffering from end-stage kidney disease, said the hospital.
