United for Waukesha Community Fund distributing $6 million to those impacted by parade tragedy
The fund will remain open through the end of the year
The Waukesha County Community Foundation and United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County announced more than $6.2 million has been raised for the United for Waukesha Community Fund to help those impacted by the parade tragedy. The money is currently being distributed to some 560 people who applied.”Those ranged from of course the families of the six people who were killed to people who were hospitalized to people who were treated as outpatients,” said Melissa Baxter, president of the Waukesha County Community Foundation. “And then anyone who was at the parade including anyone who was marching, people who were there as spectators and people who left their own families to help.”The foundation announced the following distributions: $200,000 for each of the families of the six people who died$2.51 million split among 29 people who were hospitalized with individual disbursements depending on the length of hospital stay$480,000 split among 37 people injured and treated as outpatients with individual disbursements based on short or long-term recoveries $1.71 million split among 495 people who were physically present with individual disbursements based on status as a parade participant, spectator or first responder $59,400 split among three nonprofits helping with mental health resources – Wisconsin Hero Outdoors, Family Service and Catholic Memorial The organization said one donor requested part of the gift be allocated to nonprofits, noting all individual contributions went directly to victims. The foundation is also keeping a 5% fund contingency for any unanticipated long-term issues among the 560 people and donations will be accepted through the end of the year.In January 2023, final distributions will be made including money in the contingency fund and the overall fund will be closed.
