Two Dinwiddie students win 2024 Art Contest for Southside Regional Award


DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two students from Dinwiddie County Public Schools won the Virginia School Boards Association’s Southside Regional Award for the 2024 Art Contest on March 7.

Lyla Davis, who is a fifth grade student at Midway Elementary School won second place for the elementary school level art contest.

Kayla Dean, an eleventh grade student at Dinwiddie High School won first place for the high school level art contest.

According to Dinwiddie County Public Schools, the Virginia School Boards Association’s Regional Art Contest started in 1989 as an outlet to promote artistic talents of public school students in Virginia.

For each of the nine Virginia School Boards Association regions, a winner is chosen for the elementary, middle and high school levels. The winning art is then framed and displayed in the offices of the Virginia School Boards Association in Charlottesville.
