Thousands without power in Virginia due to severe weather

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — With the arrival of stormy weather — and the expected arrival of Post-tropical cyclone Ian from the South — customers all across Virginia are experiencing power outages.

As of 11 p.m., there are an estimated 94,717 customers without power throughout the state of Virginia.

Dominion Energy

The latest update from Dominion Energy as of 11 p.m. Friday evening shows 92,403 customers without power in Dominion Energy’s service area.

  • Newport News — 3,932customers
  • Norfolk — 17,910 customers
  • Chesapeake — 2,660 customers
  • Virginia Beach — 13,009 customers
  • City of Richmond — 290 customers
  • Henrico — 181 customers
  • Chesterfield — 2,506 customers
  • Dinwiddie — 696 customers
  • James City — 1,120 customers
  • Gloucester — 1,074 customers
  • Halifax — 1,649 customers
  • Hampton — 4,696 customers
  • Isle of Wight — 1,283 customers
  • Matthews — 1,632 customers
  • Portsmouth — 1,395 customers
  • Suffolk — 890 customers
  • York — 3,231 customers

Southside Electric Cooperative

Southside Electric Cooperative, which serves counties between Petersburg and the border with North Carolina, reports that as of 11 p.m. on Friday evening, a total of 3,707 customers were without power.

  • Amelia — 119 (2.5% of customers)
  • Brunswick — 548 (23.4% of customers)
  • Mecklenburg — 56 (13.2% of customers)
  • Dinwidde — 101 (1.6% of customers)
  • Lunenburg — 111 (2.9% of customers)

Prince George Electric Cooperative

Prince George Electric Cooperative serves a number of central and eastern counties in the state of Virginia. A reported 714 customers are out of power, as of 11 p.m. on Friday evening.

  • Prince George — 324 (4.05% of customers)
  • Surry — 223 (9.74% of customers)
  • Sussex — 146 (10.51% of customers)

Central Virginia Electric Cooperative

Providing service to a number of areas throughout Virginia, the Central Virginia Electric Cooperative reported that, as of 11 p.m. on Friday evening, a total of 605 customers were without power.

  • Fluvanna — 177 customers
  • Nelson — 316 customers
  • Orange — 22 customers
