Student dismissal to be delayed for Henrico, Richmond schools on day of eclipse

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico County Public Schools and Richmond Public Schools will delay student dismissal for some schools on Monday, April 8 due to the solar eclipse.

Henrico County Public Schools will delay dismissal for all middle schools by 10 minutes to avoid students being outside without proper protective eyewear during the peak of the eclipse on April 8.

In a newsletter, Richmond Public Schools said it would join Henrico Schools by delaying their student dismissal by 10 minutes for all middle and high schools on the day of the eclipse.

Henrico Schools also said physical education classes and other activities will be moved indoors during the eclipse.

Richmond and Henrico are not the only central Virginia school districts affected by the eclipse. Chesterfield County Public Schools will be dismissing students early, Sussex County Public Schools will have asynchronous learning and Buckingham County Public Schools will have no class on April 8.
