LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The firefighter killed in a home explosion in Loudoun County been identified as a member of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company.
On Friday, Feb. 16, 45-year-old Trevor Brown was among the Sterling volunteer firefighters to respond to the 300 block of Silver Ridge Drive in the Sterling area of Loudoun County for report of a gas leak.
A 500-gallon underground propane tank was leaking on the side of the residence. A short time after emergency crews arrived, there was a catastrophic explosion.
Additional crews responded to maydays from inside the home and attempted to free the firefighters buried in the explosion’s debris. Brown died at the scene, with 11 other firefighters being taken to nearby hospitals alongside two civilians.
Four firefighters remain hospitalized as of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System.
Brown had been a member of the company since 2016. His fellow firefighters ask that those who loved him be given privacy during this time.
