Shooting in Kennebec County, believed to be accidental, prompts arrests


Deputies arrested a Randolph man Saturday on drug trafficking charges after, investigators say, an accidental shooting prompted the search of a home. The 42-year-old man shot is being treated at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta for non-life-threatening injuries. After speaking with the victim, deputies say they executed a search warrant at the home of Eric Cooper on Belmont Avenue.Deputies say they found finding illegal narcotics and firearms.Officials report finding just over 15 grams of cocaine and over 5 grams of fentanyl.Cooper’s bail is set at $30,000. Merideth Prugh of Randolph was also summonsed for similar charges.Investigators say one person recovering in the hospital is expected to be OK.
