Police: Two Richmond men charged after shooting firearms into the air on New Year’s Eve


RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Two Richmond men have been charged after allegedly shooting firearms into the air on New Year’s Eve near a school zone in the city’s East End.

Following an investigation by the Richmond Police Department, 20-year-old Nahcere Mangram and 23-year-old Shawndell Redd were identified, located and charged with shooting firearms near Coalter Street on New Year’s Eve.

According to police, video of the two men firing into the air on New Year’s Eve was posted online and First Precinct Focused Mission Team officers worked on the investigation. Both men were apprehended on Jan. 23, 2023.

Redd has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, shooting within 1,000 feet of a school zone and reckless handling of a firearm. According to officials, he was in possession of an AK-style firearm.

Mangram has been charged with shooting within 1,000 feet of a school zone and reckless handling of a firearm. He was in possession of a Glock handgun and an AK-style firearm.

Detectives are continuing to investigate reports of individuals who recklessly fired into the air on New Year’s Eve. Anyone with video or information about related incidents on the holiday can call the Richmond Police Department at 804-646-5100.
