Morning brief: Russia-Ukraine war updates, further rain predicted in Delhi, and more


Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned citizens on Friday (July 14) that Russia had been putting all resources into a campaign aimed at halting Ukrainian troops from taking forth the counter-offensive. “We must all understand very clearly, as clearly as possible, that Russian forces in our southern and eastern lands are doing everything they can in order to stop our soldiers,” President Zelensky said in his nightly address. 

Further rainfall is predicted in India’s capital city Delhi with experts warning that stormwater may overflow and take longer than usual to drain out. Parts of Delhi are still submerged underwater because of the rising levels of the Yamuna River. But for now, the water level of the river has come down to 207.58 metres from 208.40 metres a day earlier. 

And the recent outbreak of wildfires in western Canada is sending a plume of unhealthy smoke into the United States. A report by CNN on Friday said that parts of the US would be at risk of smoke for the foreseeable future depending on weather patterns and fire flareups (in Canada.)

According to a report by CNN on Friday (July 14), the smoke is moving into the Northern Plains and will spread into the Upper Midwest. The smoke could also issues in Iowa and Illinois, including Chicago.
