A suspect connected to a shooting was detained and a woman in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was rescued by police after mouthing “help me” during a traffic stop, authorities said.
In a Facebook post, the Myrtle Beach Police Department said Officer Kayla Wallace was patrolling North Myrtle Beach around 5:30 a.m. on May 28 when she saw a white Jeep run a red light at an intersection.
After pulling the car over, she noticed the male passenger “appeared distressed,” and the female driver was silently and repeatedly mouthing “help me,” according to the Facebook post.
Police said Wallace took the male passenger out of the car and into her patrol vehicle.
Wallace returned to the car, where the driver told her the male passenger had just shot someone. Moments later, police dispatch issued a message to “be on the lookout” for a vehicle that was involved in a shooting elsewhere in Horry County, South Carolina. The vehicle description and the suspect description matched the male passenger.

WBTW News reported 29-year-old Collins Bates was arrested and remains detained. He is facing charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with a shooting.
An unlawfully carried pistol was also found under his seat, police said.
