(STACKER) — Fewer Americans moved in 2022, according to the latest Census data, but of those who did, 1 in 5 moved to a different state. How many of those people moved out of Virginia, and where did they go?

#15. Colorado

  • 6,727 people from Virginia moved to Colorado in 2022, making up 2.39% of new residents that moved to another state
  • Residents of Virginia were the #8 most common origin for people moving to Colorado

#14. Ohio

  • 7,309 people from Virginia moved to Ohio in 2022, making up 2.59% of new residents that moved to another state

  • 33,919 people from Virginia moved to North Carolina in 2022, making up 12.03% of new residents that moved to another state
  • Residents of Virginia were the #2 most common origin for people moving to North Carolina

Stacker compiled a list of states people from Virginia are moving to the most using data from the Census Bureau. States are ranked by the number of people who moved from Virginia to a different state in 2022.
