Henrico Police have suspect in custody after temporary escape

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Officers were canvasing an area in western Henrico for a wanted suspect who had escaped earlier Wednesday night.

Henrico Police Department officers reported they were in the area of the Hungary Springs Road, Parham Road and Staples Mill Road corridors searching for a suspect who escaped police custody around 7 p.m.

Shortly after 8 p.m., Henrico Police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Dashawn Keon Hunter. He was reportedly wanted for felony and misdemeanor warrants in Henrico County and Caroline County.

According to police, Hunter escaped their custody outside of the Henrico County Sheriff’s Office around 5:45 p.m.

Hunter was reportedly found along Shrader Road near Uxbridge Court and returned to custody shortly before 8:30 p.m. Police said he would be transported to Henrico Jail to be processed.

Police said Hunter will be served the outstanding warrants for:

  • Two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • Breaking and entering at night to commit a felony while armed
  • Possession of a firearm
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • Misdemeanor hit and run

Hunter may face additional charges, according to police.

“We appreciate the communities support and understanding while there was a heavy police presence in area neighborhoods and around our schools, during this search,” said Lt. Matthew Pecka, a spokesperson for Henrico Police. “Officers worked diligently with multiple resources to take this offender into custody in a timely, safe manner.”
