DESOTO COUNTY, Fla.- An older dog was found severely malnourished in a trash bag in DeSoto County Monday afternoon and now deputies are looking for the person responsible.

Deputies were called around 3 p.m. when someone noticed the garbage bag near NW Livingston Street and NW North Road in Arcadia, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller told deputies they opened the bag after noticing its shape and found the dog inside still alive but in rough shape.

“There is absolutely NO reason to treat animals this way; not when there are shelters available and/or people who would gladly adopt a pretty little lady like this one. It is absolutely unacceptable!” DCSO said in a Facebook post.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the dog’s owner or the identity of the person responsible to contact the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.
