DMPS offers some retiring teachers $50,000 to stay one more year


Des Moines Public Schools is willing to pay a $50,000 bonus to teachers who planned to retire but are willing to stay one more year.The retiring teachers need to be 60 or older to be eligible and an employee for at least 15 years before retiring.Teachers will also have the option of buying into the Des Moines School District’s group health insurance plan until they turn 65. DMPS says 59 teachers have expressed interest in delaying retirement to stay another year. Des Moines Schools say they’re looking to fill 95 teaching positions across 60 buildings.
