It’s believed the teen was in the opposite bank when he tried to make his way across the river and went under. Authorities said the teen’s uncle tried to get him but was not able to.

Search crews were able to use a remote-operated vessel and found the teen. A diver went in the water at 5:40 p.m. and came up with his body at 5:41 p.m., according to a deputy.

The location river that the teen attempted to cross ranges between eight to 13 feet deep, authorities said.

At this time, the name of the 16-year-old has not been released.
