Caravel star repeats as POY


Caravel senior India Johnston is the Player of the Year for the second straight season and leads the All-State girls basketball team released Friday by the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association.

The 5-foot-8 senior averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals in leading the Buccaneers (18-6) to their first DIAA Girls Basketball Tournament championship.

Johnston, who has signed with Towson, had 27 points and seven rebounds in a 53-47 overtime victory over Sanford in the state final.

She is joined on the first team by Charter of Wilmington senior Emma Brown, Sanford senior Amiya Carroll, St. Elizabeth senior Rory Ciszkowski and Sanford junior Dallas Pierce.

The All-State team is selected through voting of all of the state’s head coaches and selected media who cover Delaware high school basketball frequently.
