CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A blue jay was admitted to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) Wednesday after it was found trapped in a glue trap in Cape Coral.
The people who found the bird stuck in the trap tried to help by clipping the animal’s wings, wildlife officials said.
When the bird arrived at CROW, it had visible cuts from trying to free itself and was missing the tips of its feathers along with some tail feathers.
The blue jay was given pain medications and supportive care and will be closely monitored while recovery continues, according to CROW.
Wildlife officials urge anyone who finds an animal stuck in a glue trap to never try and pull or cut it from it but instead sprinkle flour onto any exposed adhesive.
An animal found in one of these traps should immediately be taken to the nearest wildlife rehabilitation facility where professionals can safely treat the animal, CROW said.
