Bear trailer fire causes $10K in damages, 2nd house fire in 13 hours


A Saturday morning fire in the Fairwinds Trailer Park in Bear marks the second accidental house fire in 13 hours, the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal reported.

Christiana Fire Company was called to the trailer park on Pulaski Highway near School Bell Road at around 10 a.m., Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio said. There, they found smoke coming from a residence with “heavy fire damage,” Chionchio said.

The occupant of the trailer was not home at the time of the blaze, according to Chionchio, and no injuries were reported. An investigation by the state fire marshal’s office determined the fire was caused by a malfunctioning propane central heater.

Both Friday and Saturday’s house fires were caused by a malfunctioning heating systems and caused an estimated total of $110,000 in damages, Chionchio said. The first fire was reported Friday night in Farmington.
