Thousands of lives have been lost, and the death toll is expected to rise. Many more people are in need of urgent medical help. Hundreds of thousands, left without homes, have sought shelter from the freezing cold.

A humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Turkey and Syria in the wake of Monday’s deadly earthquake and powerful aftershocks. Dozens of countries are sending aid-and-rescue teams to the region.
