Wilmington police are investigating a shooting that occurred outside a nail salon on Lancaster Avenue, though the victim was found outside Cab Calloway School of the Arts Tuesday afternoon.
Police said a 47-year-old woman was shot about 2:45 p.m. while in the 2900 block of Lancaster Avenue. The woman was taken to an area hospital. While police did not provide a medical condition, they said she was stable.
Witnesses who stood outside the performing arts school, which shares the building with Charter School of Wilmington, said a woman in a blue four-door sedan pulled up outside of the building and got out of the vehicle wounded from the shooting.
Several people near the school building, located at the corner of North Dupont Road and Lancaster Avenue, provided the woman first aid while they waited for first responders to arrive.
One person told Delaware Online/The News Journal that a tourniquet was applied.
Just before 3:10 p.m., a lone Wilmington officer arrived outside the school and parked behind the blue car as Wilmington fire officials could be seen cleaning blood off the pavement with a hose.

The victim’s dog, which she had in her car, was taken by police.
The woman’s car was hit by gunfire once.
While classes are not set to start for another two weeks, students have returned to the school for sport practices and other activists, including senior portraits. Because of that, students could be seen leaving the school building and staff milled around discussing what happened.

As this was going on outside the school building, police could be seen focusing their investigation in the 2900 block of Lancaster Ave., outside Paradise Nails Bar.
Detectives were seen collecting evidence and shell casings on the sidewalk along Lancaster Avenue. At least four evidence cones were in the street.
Shell casings sat inside yellow circles next to the evidence cones. Wilmington police’s forensic team photographed the evidence before placing it in small paper bags.
One man, who said his wife gets her nails done at the salon, asked what occurred then said “it’s crazy.” He said he moved from Philadelphia a few years ago because of the high property taxes there and he wanted to be in a quieter area.
It’s “a shame” that there’s “so much violence out here,” he said.
By 3:40 p.m., police were taking down crime scene tape, though officers remained outside the salon.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Detective Justin Wilkers at (302) 576-3634
