William Byron talks resilience, improvements as he speeds into Richmond Raceway

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — William Byron, a North Carolina native, talked with the press Saturday morning before engines started revving at Richmond Raceway this NASCAR race weekend.

Byron, who drives the number 24 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports and currently ranks 6th, answered a variety of questions from the media during a Saturday morning press conference. He spoke about the improvements he feels he and his crew have made since last year’s race in Martinsville — when he said they were “limping across the finish line.”

He described multiple issue areas they’re working to address — including a new helmet fan to beat the heat and improvements to his car. Despite looking quiet and reserved on the outside, Byron said he is someone of great resilience.

“Once I put the helmet on, it’s pretty tough to get to me and affect me,” Byron said, adding that he believes his whole grew to be equally resilient and “gritty.”
