Wildfires rage in Rockingham County, one covers 1,200-acre area

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Several wildfires are raging in Rockingham County on Thursday after they began on Wednesday, one of which is spread across a total of 1,200 acres, according to the Virginia Department of Forestry’s Wildfire Map.

At 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, a wildfire spanning about 1,200 acres was marked active in the Capon area of the county, which was 0% contained.

This comes after the Rockingham County Department of Fire & Rescue announced that firefighters were fighting several wildfires in the Bergton area of the county at about 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20.

Please avoid the area. If you must travel through it, please use extreme caution. Finally, please avoid lighting any outside fires due to the extremely unfavorable weather conditions.
