It’s hard to believe that the Eagles will play their first game since the Super Bowl six months to the day when they take on the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night.
The stakes will be much different as this is the Eagles’ preseason opener, a far cry from the importance of the Super Bowl, which they lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 12.
The players will be much different, too. That’s because few if any of the Eagles’ starters are expected to play. That includes quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, offensive linemen Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson, and defensive stars like Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and Darius Slay.

The Ravens, who have an NFL-record 23-game preseason winning streak dating back to the summer of 2016, aren’t expected to play their stars either, including quarterback Lamar Jackson.
But there will still be intrigue, such as the likely NFL debuts of Eagles first-round draft picks Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, both defensive linemen, plus running backs D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny. Both are expected to make their Eagles debut.
This is the Eagles’ only road game of the preseason as they’ll play their final two preseason games at Lincoln Financial Field on Aug. 17 vs. the Cleveland Browns, and Aug. 24 vs. the Indianapolis Colts.
The Eagles and Ravens have played 13 times in the preseason, with Baltimore holding an 8-5 edge. The Ravens won the last preseason meeting between the two teams, 26-15, in 2019 at Lincoln Financial Field.
