Wegmans has recalled an in-house brand of pasta sauce due to it potentially containing an allergen that is not listed as an ingredient.
24-ounce jars of Wegmans Italian Classics Diavolo pasta sauce were recalled by LiDestri Foods after discovering it may contain anchovy, according to a May 17 announcement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to anchovy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the FDA reported.

According to the recall, the pasta sauce was sold at Wegmans grocery stores in Delaware, Washington D.C., Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Caroline, Pennsylvania and Virginia between April 3 and May 16 of this year.
To identify recalled jars, look for a mason jar with a red pasta sauce featuring the Diavolo label. The expiration date of the affected batch is March 31, 2025, with a jar code of “F0589” and a universal product code of “077890222409.”
No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the FDA, but the recall was initiated after a consumer complaint alerted authorities.
An investigation revealed that the problem was caused by a “temporary breakdown in LiDestri Foods’ packaging processes,” the FDA recall reported.
Consumers who have purchased Wegmans Italian Classics Diavolo pasta sauce with the above identifying information are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
