Just in time for temperatures across the Northeast to reach into the low 80s, customers can get a free hot coffee of any size at any Wawa on Thursday, April 14, in celebration of the chain’s 58th anniversary.
Wawa started in 1964 in Delaware County, Pa., and every year recognizes Wawa Day. The chain expects to be pouring early and often Thursday, estimating they will give out some 2 million cups of coffee across the over 960 locations, according to a news release.
Beyond New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware, Wawa stores also can be found in Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C., for those getting an early jump on holiday travel.
Additionally, each of the stores will be designating one customer as a “Day Brightener,” to “acknowledge the positivity they spread throughout their communities with the intent of inspiring others to do the same,” the release said.

But there’s more to Wawa Day than just coffee. The company’s Wawa Foundation will donate $100,000 of gift cards to the American Red Cross, Check-Out Hunger, Children’s Miracle Network, Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels and more, according to the release.
Two of those organizations — Check-Out Hunger and Special Olympics — will receive an additional $1 million each, with funds coming from the foundation’s “in-store customer donation campaign,” the release said.
