Water main break near Staples Mill Road causes delays in Henrico County

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A water main break near Staples Mill Road has caused closures and delays as crews work to make repairs.

The water main break was first reported by Henrico County around 10:20 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1 and has since extended further to the main line pipe.

According to authorities, Staple Mill Road’s right and center northbound lanes have been closed from Thalbro Street to Park Lane. Southbound lanes remain open. Richmond Department of Public Utilities (DPU) officials expect crews to be out on the roads until after midnight tonight., DPU contractors have bee called in for support.

Shane Kostiuk, general manager of Impulse Consignment, said that he was concerned about how the disruption to traffic would affect business.

“They have the traffic cones out and they have the signs that say go over to the next lane,” said Kostiuk. “So, it just makes it look like the entire strip mall has been closed. So people just assume that we’re not open.”

The road is expected to fully reopen in the late morning tomorrow. There are still no known impacts to water service in the area, according to Richmond DPU.

This news follows a similar water main break that occurred on Staples Mill Road near Libbie Avenue and Bethlehem Road on Thursday, Nov. 16. This break was not repaired until Saturday, Nov. 18.
