Expanded DIAA football playoffs means there are more postseason honors in 2021 for Delaware high school football players and coaches.
All were recognized when the Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association teamed up with Delawareonline.com to provide a virtual awards show Monday night.
The show provided video and photo highlights of Delaware’s best.
News Journal high school sports beat reporter Brad Myers hosted and was joined by DIFCA president John Wilson, the head coach at St. Georges, and New Journal sports reporter Kevin Tresolini.
Delaware crowned Class 3A, 2A and 1A state champions in 2021 after previously having just two divisions.
The show featured video clips of the first-team All-Class selections and players of the year, plus photo slide shows of the second-team All-Class choices.
The players of the year were Smyrna’s Cameron Edge (offense) and Middletown’s Tomiwa Durojaiye (defense) and Kody Harris-Miller (lineman) in 3A; Archmere’s Chris Albero (offense) and Woodbridge’s Wyatt Wright (defense) and Noah Matthews (lineman) in 2A; and Quasim Benson of St. Elizabeth (offense), Kyler Weaver from Laurel (defense) and T.J.
