RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Governor Glenn Youngkin provided remarks Thursday evening following the end of this year’s Virginia General Assembly Session.
On Saturday, March 9, the 2024 General Assembly Session came to an end, with Democrats using their majority to pass priorities and Republicans leaving disappointed.
In the aftermath, Youngkin spoke regarding the state’s biannual budget, including his proposal to reduce personal income tax rates while raising the state’s sales tax, which was not included in the conference budget.
Youngkin also disapproved of lawmakers’ removal of funding for an increase of law enforcement officers and School Resource Officers.
In addition, Youngkin further expressed his disapproval of the removal of the Wizards and Capitals arena from the budget.
The event was held at 3:30 p.m. in Thursday, March 14 at Eggs Up Grill in Richmond.
On April 17, the Virginia General Assembly will reconvene and review Youngkin’s revised budget.
