WASHINGTON, D.C. (WRIC) — Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. is hospitalized after being shot, sports journalists are reporting.
NFL Network Insider staff Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero are reporting that at least two bullets struck Robinson in the lower body. He is currently in stable condition after being shot as the victim in an attempted robbery, according to Tweets by the football experts.
Pelissero Tweeted the following additional information on Robinson’s shooting via D.C. Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck:
- Police responded to a shooting in 1000 block of H Street NE
- One victim (Robinson) with two gunshot wounds to lower extremities
- 2 suspects fled
- Police recovered firearm nearby
- Victim was transported to area hospital
- Preliminary investigation suggests Robinson was the target of an attempted armed robbery or carjacking The incident occurred sometime before 6 p.m. today
- Washington played its preseason finale Saturday in Baltimore.
According to the Washington Commanders website Robinson is the 100th running back selected by Washington in franchise history.
Robinson played in 66 games at the University of Alabama from 2017-21 and rushed 545 times for 2,704 yards and 29 touchdowns, according to data on the Washington D.C. football team’s website. He added 52 receptions for 446 yards and two touchdowns. As a senior in 2021, Robinson rushed 271 times for 1,343 yards and 14 touchdowns. He added 35 receptions for 296 yards and two touchdowns. He was named to the All-SEC First-Team by the conference coaches and was named a Reese’s Bowl All-American. His 14 rushing touchdowns were the most by a running back in the SEC and his 16 total touchdowns were the 20th most in the nation.
He is a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Robinson attended Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa and was rated an unanimous four-star recruit.
