Virginia school becomes ‘The Chosen One’ to perform Harry Potter Broadway play

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Virginia high school becomes the first and only school selected in the state to show a Tony-winning “Harry Potter” Broadway play, according to Playbill.

Riverside High School located in Leesburg was selected by Broadway Licensing Global to be the first and only school in Virginia to stage a school rendition of the Broadway play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

Broadway Licensing Global selected 29 schools in the United States as part of a “Wands at the Ready” contest where schools were asked to describe why their school or community is the most magical place to produce the play.

In a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, Riverside High School’s Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence was thrilled to announce the school’s theatre program had won the opportunity to perform the Broadway show.

“You know anything is possible if you got enough nerve,” Dr. Spence said when announcing the school had won. “You went for it and now the journey has only just begun.”

The winning schools, including Riverside High School, will be able to perform the Harry Potter play between Oct. 15 and Nov. 10 this year.
