HARRISONBURG, Va. (WRIC) — James Madison University (JMU) has announced that its Lab School for Innovation and Career Exploration has been approved by the Virginia Board of Education.
The university said the lab school is in partnership with Blue Ridge Community College and Rockingham County Public Schools.
“The vision of the lab school is to become an innovation hub for career exploration and workforce development through interdisciplinary, problem-focused application of solving community needs, leading to college and career readiness,” said JMU President Jonathan R. Alger.
The lab school has been championed by Governor Glenn Youngkin, who said the partnership “will help foster innovative and creative education opportunities for students in the area.”
This comes two years after the General Assembly approved $100 million to launch new lab schools–partnerships between local public school divisions and institutions of higher education with innovative lesson plans in 2022.
