VCU cancels classes after over 1,300 buildings were without power on, near campus

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Over 1,300 homes, businesses and campus buildings were without power on and near Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) Monroe Park campus Monday morning, causing many classes to be cancelled.

At 7:53 a.m. on Monday, March 25, the university announced that all classes on its Monroe Park campus were cancelled until 10 a.m.

This comes after VCU released an alert at 7:13 a.m. to the university community regarding a widespread power outage that was reportedly caused by a substation outage.

According to Dominion Energy, about 1,323 homes, businesses and campus buildings were without power at 7:40 a.m. on Monday.

Power was later restored and classes resumed at 10 a.m., according to the university.
