RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Two men have been arrested and charged in connection to a robbery on Broad Rock Boulevard in Richmond’s Southside — and police are working to determine charges connected to another shooting on the same street minutes later which resulted in the shooting death of a man.
According to the Richmond Police Department, officers responded to the 2200 block of Broad Rock Boulevard at around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7 for a report of a robbery. It was determined that an unknown armed man fired a round inside the store and took cash before leaving in an SUV. There were no reported injuries in this incident.
Just minutes later, at around 10:30 a.m., officers responded to Lindo Amanecer Market & Restaurant, located at 3020 Broad Rock Boulevard, for a report of a robbery and shooting. Officers at the scene found a man, who was an employee of the business, down and unresponsive from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives determined the two incidents were related. The SUV and two suspects were found just 45 minutes after the shooting at Lindo Amanecer. The two suspects were arrested and identified as 25 -year-old Yonathan Zelaya Beltran of Richmond and 18-year-old Ronaldy Monterroso of Chesterfield County.
Beltran and Monterroso were both charged with robbery and use of a firearm while committing a felony in connection to the first reported robbery. Police say charges are pending for the robbery and homicide at Lindo Amanecer.
