Trailer used by high school robotics team in Petersburg stolen

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A high school robotics team in Petersburg is looking for alternative transport after its trailer was stolen ahead of a tournament.

The trailer used by Appomattox Regional Governor’s School’s robotics team to transport its robot was stolen from the school’s parking lot around midnight on Thursday, Feb. 22. The incident was captured by one of the school’s security cameras.

The team is set to compete in a tournament this weekend. Alex Salas, an Appomattox Regional Governor’s School teacher who leads the robotics team, said he is hopeful that they will still be able to compete despite the setback.

“The team is very resilient,” said Salas. “Parents have already called and offered to lend us a trailer for the weekend.”

The school has filed a report from the Petersburg Bureau of Police. 8News has not yet heard back from the department about this incident.
