The victims of the fatal flooding in Upper Makefield Saturday night range in age from 63 to 9 months, Upper Makefied Fire Chief Tim Brewer said at a news conference Sunday morning. The baby and other family members are still missing.
Brewer did not identify the victimes but said that one family has been severely impacted by the disaster. Four people are still considered missing, three females and one male.
Two other women and one man were confirmed dead after a train of rain slammed into Bucks County, swelling the Delaware River and pushing floodwaters out of creeks and inlets.
Dozens of motorists in Upper Makefield were swamped as the rising waters pushed onto roadways, causing some to abandon their vehicles, and others to be swept away.
Here’s what we know so far about the victims:
Who died when parts of the Delaware River flooded?
The confirmed victims were said to be two females and one male.
“We do not think anybody drove into it,” Brewer said about the rising water. They were … on that road when it happened. Within minutes the road went from passable to having four to five feet of raging water, he said.
Bucks County Coroner Meredith Buck confirmed the fatalities Saturday night, but little information has been provided about who they were or how they died.
Two of the dead were found together in one area and the third was found in separate location, Buck said.
Rescuers said the terrain around the Houghs Creek that flows into the Delaware has made trying to find the victims difficult, and more rain that fell Sunday added to the difficulties.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is made available.
