The massive I-95 construction project that has caused delays on the highway through Wilmington is about halfway done.
Work on the northbound lanes ended in December and southbound construction began in January. It is expected to wrap up early in 2023.
Reconstruction of the northbound lanes included repairs to the Exit 6 off ramp to Maryland Avenue and MLK Boulevard, the Exit 7 off ramp to Delaware Avenue, the N. Adams Street to I-95 northbound on ramp and the Delaware Avenue to I-95 northbound on ramp.
Drainage structures and guardrails were also new additions to the northbound lanes.
Reconstruction of the southbound lanes is part of the project’s second phase, which includes reducing I-95 to one lane in each direction and periodic ramp closures while new lighting, road surface and signage, barriers and other improvements are made.
Current closures include the Jackson Street onramp to I-95 southbound by Cool Spring Park in Wilmington and the southbound lanes around Frawley Stadium.

I-95 southbound Exit 6 is also closed while it is being rebuilt but is scheduled to reopen at the end of this month.
DelDOT advises motorists to expect traffic delays and be prepared to follow detours.
Once this phase is completed, the final phase will see all I-95 lanes and ramps open to traffic while construction continues on other elements of the project.
The entire Restore the Corridor project is expected to end by next spring.
