Suspicious package report caused evacuation in Henrico, turned out to not be a threat


UPDATE: As of 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, the scene was cleared as police determined the package not to be a threat.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A building near the intersection of West Broad Street and Staples Mill Road in western Henrico County was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a suspicious package was reported in the area.

According to the Henrico County Division of Police, officers and units with the Henrico County Division of Fire responded to a building in the 2000 block of Maywill Street at 4:49 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, in response to a report of a suspicious package.

The building was evacuated while fire crews and officers investigated the incident.

Drivers were asked to avoid Maywill Street as the investigation continues. Police have not provided any further information at this time.

At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, police advised the scene was cleared and the package was deemed not to be a threat.
