President Joe Biden is scheduled to announce today at 2 p.m. his nomination for the Supreme Court seat set to be vacated by Associate Justice Stephen Breyer this summer.
U.S. Circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is the first Black woman to be nominated for a seat on the high court. Jackson is expected to speak at the announcement.
Jackson, 51, was confirmed by the Senate just last year to serve on the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., leading some to hope for bipartisan support of her nomination.

The White House called Jackson “an exceptionally qualified nominee as well as an historic nominee” and urged the Senate to “move forward with a fair and timely hearing and confirmation.”
While Republican Sen. Susan Collins praised Jackson’s experience, Sens. Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham have criticized Jackson as being the favored candidate of far-left groups.
