Summer will be in peak tourist season for the next few weeks, and it comes as no surprise that beach music venues are bringing out their biggest and brightest stars.
In Selbyville, the Freeman Arts Pavilion will present country star Chris Young on Thursday, July 14 ($69 to $99). Tyler Braden will open the show at 7 p.m. Fleetwood Mac tribute act Tusk will return at 7 p.m., Friday, July 15 ($25).
In one of the highlights of the Freeman season, Grammy winner Sheryl Crow will make her long-awaited return for a sold-out concert Sunday, July 17 (following a 7 p.m. opening set by Keb’ Mo’). Crow sold out a previous Freeman performance way back in July of 2013.
In Dewey Beach, the Bottle & Cork nightclub will present country vocalist (and Smyrna native) Chuck Wicks at 8 p.m., Thursday, July 14 ($25). The following evening will see the Cork hosting a sold-out country show featuring Niko Moon, who will be preceded by opening act Dylan Schneider at 8 p.m.
The Cork also continues to cross-promote its annual outdoor shows at Hudson Fields, located on southbound Route 1 in Milton. It was revealed Monday that exactly 34 “party pit” tickets remained available for a country blowout featuring Cody Johnson & Friends (AKA Randy Houser and Drew Parker) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. General admission tickets ($55) are available, but are also selling briskly.
Pit tickets are already sold out for a Hudson Fields country show the previous week featuring hometown hero Jimmie Allen as the headliner of the second annual Bettie James Fest at 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13; general admission tickets remain at $65.
In downtown Rehoboth Beach, the Dogfish Head brewpub will present a free concert by Denver, Colorado indie-rock trio Wildermiss at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 15.
Dogfish has also announced a pair of free concerts that will take place later this month. Chicago-based blues pianist Neal Francis will perform at 10 p.m., Wednesday, July 27. An indie-rock double bill at 10 p.m., Friday, July 29 will pair two Canadian acts — Kiwi Jr. and Weird Nightmare.
In Berlin , acoustic-rock troubadour Donavan Frankenreiter will visit The Globe Gastro Theatre next week for a three-nighter. Tickets are $35 per evening for the shows taking place Tuesday through Thursday, July 19-21. Opening act Christina Holmes will warm up the crowds at 6 p.m. each night.
In Ocean City, the Cowboy Coast Saloon’s Throwback Thursday concert series is taking a week off — but it will be back in force July 21 with the return of country singer Colt Ford ($25). This will be followed by an appearance by hard-rock favorite Buckcherry on July 28 (also $25).
