PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A male remains at large as Virginia State Police continue to investigate after a police pursuit of four people in a vehicle took place from Chesterfield County to Petersburg.
According to Virginia State Police, at about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, a trooper on patrol in Chesterfield County saw an improperly registered black Infiniti vehicle driving 28 miles over the speed limit going southbound on Interstate 95 at Willis Road. The area was posted as 60 miles per hour.
The trooper then activated his emergency light and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver of the Infiniti kept driving, causing a police pursuit to begin.
The Infiniti took to Exit 61B continuing into the outskirts of the Chesterfield area and driving recklessly into multiple jurisdictions, according to police.
The vehicle then went back onto the Interstate and took Exit 48B, where it then crashed in Petersburg at the intersection of Wagner Road at Medical Park Boulevard.
Rebecca Young, of Dinwiddie, said drivers who feel the need to speed should stop, and start having compassion for human life instead.
“Now you ask yourself is it even safe for me to take my kids out in public,” Young said. “You never know where crime’s gonna pop off and nowadays it just seems to be everywhere—all around us.”
According to police, four unidentified males who were inside of the Infiniti fled on foot after the crash, which initiated a search.
The driver and two passengers of the Infiniti were able to be caught and arrested by police, with charges pending. One passenger remains at large, according to state police.
Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
