LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An Orange County woman is going to jail a second time for charges relating to the stalking of a 72-year-old Louisa County woman officials say she previously threatened with a machete.
According to a release from the Louisa County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, 58-year-old Josephine Currier was sentenced on Monday, March 18, to a total of 5 years for charges relating to stalking a person with a protective order against her.
This is the second time Currier has been jailed for stalking the unidentified victim, according to the release.
The office said the stalking began in late 2022, with Currier asking those close to the victim about her whereabouts. On Jan. 24, 2023, Currier reportedly came to the victim’s home with a machete and threatened to kill her. She was arrested, convicted and served time in jail for these crimes.
After Currier was released in late 2023, she violated the protective order against her, authorities said. Over the course of two months, Currier reportedly attempted to enter the victim’s gated community in Louisa multiple times and lingered outside of the gate when denied entry. According to the release, she told others about her desire to hurt the victim during this time.
“These actions had the intended impact of terrorizing the victim,” said Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Wood in the release. “The defendant continued her aggressive behavior after her conviction by stating in open court she would kill the victim.”
Stalking is typically a misdemeanor, but Currier faced felony charges due to her prior conviction and the violation of the protective order against her.
“This behavior of the defendant is totally unacceptable, and no person should live in fear from a stalker like Currier,” said Louisa Commonwealth’s Attorney Rusty McGuire. “We are glad she will spend the next five years in prison to think about her actions.”
