STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding a man who they say injured a sheriff’s deputy during a chase.
According to police, a deputy saw a driver run a red light at the intersection of Butler Road and Chatham Heights Road at around 1:34 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15. The deputy tried to pull the driver over, but he refused to stop and a pursuit began.
The driver continued on Chatham Heights Road towards Kings Highway at speeds reaching around 60 miles per hour. The driver turned on his left turn signal, but turned right onto Hamilton Street. The pursuing deputies weren’t fooled and continued to follow him down Hamilton Street.
The driver ran a stop sign at Rodney Lane and continued towards the back of the Chatham Shopping Center. Behind the Laundry Basket Laundromat in the shopping center, the driver crashed head-on into one of the Stafford Sheriff Office’s cruisers, causing minor injuries to a deputy inside.
The driver got out of the car and ran away — managing to evade police during a manhunt lasting all night.
The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Elijah Lucas of Stafford. He is wanted for eluding police, felony hit-and-run, felony assault on law enforcement, driving with a suspended license, driving with an expired registration, driving with an expired inspection and failure to obey a traffic light.
Lucas is described as a 5-foot-8 Black man weighing around 155 pounds. Anyone who has seen him or has information related to his whereabouts is asked to call the Stafford Sheriff’s Office at 540-658-4400.
