Southwest Iowa pursuit reaches speeds of 116, ends with 2 people arrested
A high-speed pursuit on Jan. 12 in southwest Iowa ended with two people arrested, according to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies attempted to stop a 2021 Volkswagen Jetta on Jan. 12 for speeding on Highway 2, east of Sidney, Iowa. The vehicle didn’t stop, reaching speeds of 116 mph, and traveled approximately five miles. The occupants of the vehicle switched drivers and stopped on Highway 2 near Farragut, Iowa.The first driver, 30-year-old Jacob Morton, of Albemarle, North Carolina, initially gave deputies a fraudulent name. Morton was later found to have an active warrant for his arrest in North Carolina. He was charged with reckless driving, eluding, providing false information, fugitive from justice, possession of controlled substances (meth) and possession of drug paraphernalia (meth).The second driver, 58-year-old Jeanna Dockter, of Sidney, Iowa, was charged with possession of controlled substances (meth) and possession of drug paraphernalia (meth).Morton is being held without bond pending charges in Iowa and North Carolina.
