Investigators in Kansas City, Missouri are trying to find out who illegally dumped an entire mobile home in the city.Officials said it’s one of the largest items that has ever been illegally dumped in Kansas City – a badly damaged mobile home dropped under the 23rd Street Bridge at Manchester Avenue. The mobile home has been there for five weeks. People who pass by the area often say it caught fire just a few days ago. Jackson County Administrator Troy Schulte released a statement late Monday afternoon on the home’s history:”Today, county officials learned that a mobile home that had been purchased and removed from the site by a non-resident third party had been found abandoned and burned in Kansas City, Missouri. Records show that the mobile home’s former residents were rehoused in March of this year and the mobile home was subsequently purchased and removed by a third party purchaser on June 12, 2022.”County staff have contacted city officials and offered to assist in their investigation as well as the removal of the trailer and the cleanup of the site.”Alan Ashurst is an illegal dumping investigator for Kansas City. He said he thinks the trailer was put there in perfect condition and that someone was living in it. He is trying to determine how and why it caught on fire. “This has become trash. I don’t know where I’m gonna be able to go with it as far as an illegal dumping case because it wasn’t his intent for it to catch fire and now its garbage and now its our headache,” Ashurst said.Leonard Fullbright drives down Manchester Avenue almost every day. He said the illegal dumping problem has progressively gotten worse. “We see trash daily dumped, Fullbright said. “Loads of tires… and now our star is a mobile home trailer that’s been dumped.”He said the area seems to be hit fairly frequently with illegal dumping and he would like to see some changes. “We are trying to keep this area clean,” Fullbright said. “If this is going to be a main artery to the stadium when the soccer games come, then I would hate for anybody outside of this country to see how not well kept this is. Somebody needs to take some interest in this area.”Officials are trying to determine if that fire was intentional.
