Delawareans holding their breath for the massive winter storm blowing south through the Midwest can breathe a sigh of relief: The weather system – which is expected to dump heavy snow all the way down to Atlanta – will mostly miss Delaware, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologist Amanda Lee said New Castle County can expect some snow Sunday starting between 5 and 8 p.m. The precipitation will turn into rain overnight, Lee said, which will taper off Monday morning. Lower Delaware can expect the same pattern, but with less snow in the mix.

Temperatures on Monday will be high enough that ice is unlikely, Lee said, but driving conditions may be worse than usual Sunday night. A low of 30 with predicted for the Wilmington area.
“Be careful on the roads if there’s any accumulation but overall, it’ll mostly be a rain event for Delaware,” she said.
She explained that Delaware managed to escape another snowstorm because of a shift in the weather system.
The storm will hit further west than originally predicted, she said, meaning most of the snow in the area will be in the western parts of central Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Before the storm arrives, however, temperatures are expected to dip lower than usual, with wind chills making it feel as cold as zero degrees Friday night.
Saturday’s temperatures are expected to top out at 25 and again dip overnight into the teens, with real feel wind chill values rounding out about zero degrees.
