RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Seven people are displaced after a home caught fire in Richmond’s West End.
A spokesperson for Richmond Fire and Emergency Services said a call reported the fire along the 4900 block of Park Avenue at 3:43 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
The spokesperson said multiple other calls were placed from people nearby regarding flames that were seen coming from the one-and-a-half-story home.
When firefighters arrived, it was found that there were no working smoke detectors within the home.
The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the seven residents that were displaced, none of whom were injured in the fire.
In regard to the home’s lack of working smoke detectors, Richmond Fire and Emergency Services Captain Travis Stokes said, “If it were three in the morning, it could’ve been a different outcome. Working smoke detectors are essential. Richmond Fire provides them for free.”
