More than a dozen children and two adults were injured Monday morning in a three-car crash between an SUV, a pickup truck and a school bus near New Castle, police said.
First responders were called to West Commons Boulevard and Reads Way at 8:15 a.m. for reports of the wreck. It was initially reported that several students and one adult were injured, though responding personnel found additional children and another adult hurt.
In total, 14 kids ages 5 to 10 were taken to the hospital, New Castle County Police said.
New Castle County Paramedics Senior Sgt. Abigail Haas said while paramedics responded to the scene, the injuries were minor enough that their advanced life support services were not needed.
Through their investigation, police determined that a white Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was driving north on West Commons Boulevard when it crested a hill and hit a black Ford Expedition that was stopped at the intersection with Reads Way.
The impact caused the Ford to drive into a school bus from Academia Antonia Alonso. The school bus was a lane over and also stopped at the red light.

Photos and video from the scene show the Ford with significant damage to its front. Children could also be seen being walked off the bus by firefighters.
In addition to the 14 children who were injured, the bus driver and driver of the Ford were taken to the hospital.
Police cited the 35-year-old driver of the pickup with inattentive driving.
