A 14-yeard-old was killed and five others were injured in two Saturday night shootings in Wilmington.
The first occurred at about 9:30 p.m. in the area of 6th and Madison streets. A 14-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were shot.
According to Wilmington Police, the 14-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 20-year-old was listed in critical condition.
The 14-year-old is the first child to be killed by gunfire in Wilmington this year. Nineteen young people have been wounded.
The last child killed by gunfire in Wilmington was 14-year-old Christopher Smith. He was killed on June 22, 2021, as he rode his bike just before 6 p.m. in the 500 block of W. 35th Street.
Saturday’s double shooting happened just a few blocks from where a WSFS executive was fatally shot on Tuesday while driving past the 700 block of Washington Street.

Police have not confirmed the woman’s name, but sources with first-hand knowledge told Delaware Online/The News Journal that Carrie Mondell, senior vice president and director of operational risk management at WSFS, was shot three blocks from the bank’s corporate headquarters at 500 Delaware Ave.
The sources said she was on her way home from work when she was struck by a stray bullet.
A 22-year-old man who was standing on the sidewalk when he was shot remained in critical condition, according to police.
Shootings on West 27th Street
About two hours after the 14-year-old was fatally shot, four people were hit by gunfire on the city’s North Side.
According to Wilmington Police, a 34-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, a 41-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were shot around 11:13 pm on first block of West 27th Street near North Market Street. Three were listed in stable condition, except the 34-year-old who was reported to be in critical condition.
So far this year, 81 people have been shot in Wilmington, 13 fatally.
